We are gearing up to start the remodel on our farm house. The home is set on our lovely, mostly treed, 26 acres in northeast Jackson county just north of Blue Springs and only 20 min east of downtown Kansas City. We have 2 ponds, a cedar forest, trails that travel all the land, a 60’ barn, bunk house, tap room, outhouse and an outbuilding next to the home that will be my art studio! I’m pretty excited to get going on this BIG project. We are doubling the size of the home. It’s only a 2 bedroom at this point, but once we are done it will be a 4 bedroom, 4 bath with a loft, wrap around deck that steps down to a 2nd deck that surrounds a pool, screened porch and more. I’m designing it as our “Bohemian Cabin”. Unique styling should be expected!

Our recent excitement there was the raccoon family that thinks that the farm home is theirs. Mike had noticed a few weeks ago that something had eaten all our fish food (Mike stocked the ponds this spring and bought a big bag of fish feed). He assumed it was racoons. He set a trap one night with a piece of pizza, the raccoon was wise and knew now to dismantle the trap to get to the pizza. He set another trap the next night but this time wired it securely. Mr Raccoon again outsmarted the human and took the trap apart to get to his meal. So last week Mike, Shane and Sam were staying out there and put out traps just outside the door of the room that they were sleeping in. Over the course of the week they caught Father Coon, Uncle Coon, Momma Coon, Teen Coon and 2 babies! We don’t know if that is all the entire family that has been living at our farm, but we will find out I’m sure. Mike took them all miles away and let them go.

Starting in August we will jump in and start getting dirty on this long but exciting project. There will surely be other animal adventures as we go. I guess I need to purchase more fish food!
